with standards that exceed those of USDA Prime, Choice and Select graded beef. It's the only brand owned by the American Angus Association's
35,000 cattle ranchers. Just one in five Angus-influenced cattle qualify for the Certified Angus Beef® brand.
Less than 8% of all beef meets the Certified Angus Beef® brand’s quality standards. Every pound of product is tracked for assured quality.

Science-Based Specifications
To ensure completely unbiased approval, Angus-influenced cattle are evaluated by independent USDA inspectors, not in-house graders or plant employees. To be labeled with the
Certified Angus Beef® brand, beef must meet the following requirements.
Marbling
- Modest or higher marbling
- Medium or fine marbling texture
Consistent Sizing
- 10 to 16 square inch ribeye area
- Less than 1,000-pound hot carcass weight
- Less than 1 inch fat thickness
Quality Appearance and Tenderness
- Superior muscling (eliminates dairy influence)
- Practically free of capillary rupture
- No dark cutters
- No neck hump exceeding 2 inches

Certified Angus Beef® Brand Natural
Raised by farmers and ranchers who are dedicated to producing the best naturally, this beef must meet all 10 specifications
for flavor, tenderness and juiciness, as well as the following "all natural" requirements:
- No hormones or antibiotics
- Fed a 100% vegetarian diet (no animal by-products)
- Traceable to place of birth
- No artificial ingredients
- Minimally processed
Certified Angus Beef® Brand Prime
When the occasion demands exquisite perfection, you want only Certified Angus Beef® brand Prime.
Beef in this category must meet all of the brand's standard specifications, with slightly abundant
or higher marbling. In addition, it must pass nine more quality standards than beef graded USDA Prime.
Only A maturity beef with superior muscling is accepted, promising the most tender cuts and a more
consistent plate presentation. Less than 1% of all beef earns Certified Angus Beef®brand Prime distinction.
